Many of the stories and myths that define the fantasy genre in the West originated in European stories, so it makes sense that Europe would also have plenty of dramatic fantasy films. Some stories are contemporary, but still retain some fantastic or supernatural elements. Some stories might split the difference, with characters somehow split between the mundane world the audience can recognize and a secret fantasy world. Other stories, however, take place in imaginary worlds oozing with fantastic elements.
