The majority of Western movies and shows have White protagonists, which is understandable because they are mainly set in the Old West and, during this era, very few Black people served as lawmen or bounty hunters. Still, over the years, filmmakers and showrunners focusing on the Western genre have opted for Black protagonists, either as a way to champion diversity or as an effort to tell little-known stories about Black heroes from the past.
