The classic Western film genre conjures up images of wild and rugged open spaces, challenging frontier life, bank and train robberies, gold fever, brooding and noble heroes, hearty campfire meals, cattle drives, terrorizing thugs, beautiful damsels in distress, and, of course, loud shootouts. As for the uncensored European answer to American productions, colloquially known as Spaghetti westerns, they feature reluctant antiheroes, brutal villains, unconventional soundtracks, and excessive violence and nudity.
