Demain Rugna's When Evil Lurks introduced many fans to the often-overlooked Argentinian horror scene. With the uncompromising violence, themes of superstition and the supernatural, and an oppressively bleak approach to the genre, the Shudder Original's popularity has steadily grown through word of mouth. The unique approach of Rugna's visions of horror makes it difficult to draw direct comparisons to other works. Still, there are many films out there that work in the same extreme territory while delivering an engaging story of ethereal terror.
