About Matt Mahler
Managing Editor and critic for MovieWeb, Matt Mahler is also a film critic, interviewer, and writer for the site since 2021. He hates bullies and arrogant people, out-of-touch wealthy elites, and insects. He doesn't see the point of oysters. A lover of film, philosophy, cooking, and theology, Matt has been a janitor, a cook, a plumbing contractor, a kitchen manager, and everything in between. Life is very strange, and so is he. You can contact him at matthew.m@movieweb.com
Favorite Media
Matt's favorite films run the gamut of cinema, from hardcore horror to slowcore art films. Some of his favorite directors include Ingmar Bergman, Yasujiro Ozu, Bruno Dumont, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Wong-kar Wai, Jean-Pierre Melville, Andrei Tarkovsky, Bela Tarr, David Lynch, Werner Herzog, David Cronenberg, Steven Soderbergh, and his favorite, Jean-Luc Godard.
Industry Focus
Matt's main foccus is behind the scenes, editing our reviews and interviews, though he still tries to write them from time to time. He manages a wonderful team of editors and writers at MovieWeb, using his extensive film knowledge, English skills, and complete lack of a life outside work to maintain the website. He is specifically focused on shedding light on great directors and talent behind the scenes, and exploring the world of independent, international, and arthouse film for audiences who are sick of the same old crap.
