In the great year that 2023 was for horror movies, The Exorcist: Believer was an interesting addition. Even though it was a box-office flop and audiences didn't exactly love it, that doesn't mean it's a horrible film. The problem with it is that it's impossible not to compare it with the film that inspired it. When you put the 2023 sequel or any other modern horror film besides The Exorcist, you're comparing films that should not stand side by side. It's a different era. Modern horror films aren't like they were 50 years ago. Audiences aren't the same. The Exorcist: Believer just feels like the best version of something that no one outside the studio circle believed in.
